SHELTER
STRUCTURES AWARDED 2 BIDS FROM THE US NAVY (September,
2005)
Stuart, FL - Shelter Structures, Inc, leading designer and
manufacturer of custom tensioned fabric buildings, recently
received two awards totaling $1.499MM from the US Navy. 18
aircraft hangars will be built and installed at both NAS Kingsville,
TX and NAS Meridian, MS. The project will provide weather
protection for Navy T-45 training aircraft.
Fabric covered steel buildings make ideal aircraft hangars,
as they prolong the life of the aircraft by minimizing hail
damage and block 85% of the sun’s rays, which can cause premature
weather damage to the aircraft. Fabric allows natural light,
which significantly reduces utility consumption.
The
hangars will be engineered to withstand wind gusts of up to
130 mph, using heavy duty galvanized steel ribs and 28 oz
coated vinyl fabric. Shelter Structures obtained the job through
innovative design techniques, such as the elimination of ground
rails, which can collect trash and cause a trip hazards. Work
will commence in January 2006 and be completed by June 2006.
